How to Keep Your Energy Up All Day

February 13, 2017 by Camilla

Have you ever wondered how some people keep their energy up all day? Are they born energetic or is it a trick to this?

In this short training video I’m sharing ONE simple thing to do in order to keep your energy high all day long. This one thing is based on how the brain functions and it literally needs us to do this if it is to function well all day. When our brain has higher energy, we have higher energy and we can work smarter instead of harder. Which means we get the work done in less time and have time for that thing called life!

I would love to hear what tricks you use so share in the comments below so that others can try it. (And nope, drinking coffee or energy drinks all day long doesn’t qualify! 😉 They are crutches that wear down your adrenal glands and makes you more tired, causing you to drink more of that crap in order to function).

5 Tips on How To Plan Your Year

December 5, 2016 by Camilla

How do you plan out your year so that you can accomplish the things you want to accomplish?

In this video I’m showing you how I plan out my year to make sure I accomplish what I set out to do. It’s not as complicated as most think but it does require a little planning and backwards thinking.

Summary. For more detailed information, watch the video.

1. Get a year calendar so that you can have a great visual of the entire year. I use the wall calendar from NeuYear.net. They have some great options including a calendar that you can write and erase on. Helps you move things around if needed without having to use whiteout. I then put in the cornerstones first: vacations, weekend trips, business travel, conferences, training, and seminars. Then I put in marketing campaigns, and deadlines for my projects. I also put in my monthly theme for learning. Always continue your personal growth by studying.

2. Then get a monthly calendar. You can use a bigger desk version or a smaller one. Do what works for you. Now plan out what you must do each day that month in order to make your deadlines or other milestones. Plan backwards so that when that deadline arrives you are ready. If you want to have written a 300 page book by a certain date, how many pages do you need to write every month in order to make that deadline?

3. Then figure out what you must do each week in order to move the needle forward. Having a general plan for the week helps you see what can be done and what can’t. Instead of checking your big wall calendar or monthly calendar, have your weekly goals handy on an index card. I usually write down 5 things to move forward each week on an index card.

4. Then get down to planning your day. What must be done today in order to hit your goals down the road. Remember, you took the entire year, broke down what you needed to do monthly and weekly, now you know what must be done each day. Block time out on your calendar for EVERYTHING, including exercise, education, and yes goofing off time.

5. Get very specific on what projects to move forward this year. Keep it simple. When you try to work on too many things you move few or even none forward. Pick three main projects to move forward and put all your focus on them. Then schedule in time on your calendar when to work on them. What gets scheduled gets done!

I know this seems like a lot. If you’ve never planned much then this may seem overwhelming. Start somewhere. Block out time on your calendar to do certain things. Try to think ahead by planning backwards. Start somewhere and as you go you get better at it and before you know it, you will plan your year out in style!

It’s time to stop spinning and start living, and achieve your goals!

How To Stop Notifications From Stealing Your Day

November 21, 2016 by Camilla

Ah, but the lovely ‘someone likes me’ feeling we get when the phone pings with notifications and that red dot on our social media apps and email informs us that we have things to attend. Important things. At least more important than the things we are working on.

I know. Notifications are FUN! They can make us feel connected with our friends and the world.

As great as that is, those notifications also steal our day away. They distract us, they grab us and lure us down the rabbit hole of being busy but not productive. Ever gone on Facebook to check that notification only to look up thirty minutes later realizing you are still on FB?

All those minutes here and there adds up to a lot of time. They seem innocent but it’s just like that daily $5 dollar latte that adds up to over 1,800 dollars in a year.

Blame It On the Brain

The brain is a funny thing. It loves novelty and anything new and shiny. It really doesn’t like to focus on the same thing for too long. It loves distractions!

Which makes notifications the perfect distraction for the brain to get addicted to.

Addicted?

Yes.

A study done in 2012 compared brain scans of people addicted to the internet to people addicted to drugs and guess what?

If you’re addicted to the internet your brain can start to operate in a similar fashion as if you were addicted to drugs. The brain has become addicted to quick burst of dopamine, a brain neurotransmitter involved in creating a sense of pleasure and reward.

Sadly, for the most part the “reward” wasn’t as exciting as you anticipated so the brain goes off in search for more dopamine. In other words you’re in the dopamine loop of seeking happiness in the world of the wild web.

The dopamine loop can get you hooked. That’s why drug addicts continue in hope of that the next hit of whatever they are taking will make them feel happy and fulfilled.

How To Get Your Day Back

First, most people can’t go cold turkey with their phones. You know if you are one of them. Take a look at your hand. Is there a phone in there at all times? Then you are most likely so attached to your phone that you would go into panic mode if I took it away for an hour.

Second, realize that you are dealing with something that won’t take overnight to change. The draw from your phone or computer will still be strong for quite some time.

Third, slow change leads to greater success. At least that’s my experience. Start with removing the banner and red dot notifications. Then be brave and start leaving your phone at home while you go for a 30 minute walk or while you’re eating dinner with the family. Then get the phone out of your bedroom. About 80% of people grab their phone first thing in the morning. Many before they even say good morning to their partner. Talk about having some messed up priorities!

Fourth, once you realize that life does go on without constantly checking your phone or computer you increase those times until you can take an entire day off from being connected. Now you know you’re ready for some digital time free days.

Fifth, enjoy the clarity and focus that you get when you are not constantly bogged down by emails, notifications and more. Not to mention all the extra time you now have getting the work done and moving your life forward!

Sixth, simply do not have any social media or email tabs open while you are working on the computer. Start single-tasking. Remove the email popup at work. Those should be banned. They distract you because even if you think you can ignore them your brain can’t. It now wants to know what’s in that email.

I know, becoming de-attached to your phone can be hard but we survived just fine before smartphones arrived. Be the master of your smartphone and your computer instead of you being a slave to it.

Now, go out there, and move forward. It’s time to stop spinning and start living.
