Don’t Apologize for Your Dream
Yeah, I post a lot of mountain scenery photos on Facebook.
Images of our great outdoors are all over my website, too. If we email each other, it’s just a matter of time until you receive a photo of the latest sunset or snowfall.
Yesterday I was at it again, and started to write an apologetic disclaimer to my photo-weary friends.
“Why do I post so many %&!$# photos of the mountains?…” it began.
With the cursor blinking, this realization came to mind:
Don’t apologize. These images are connected to a deep joy. Share – and explain!
My wife and I are so thankful to live in the high mountains… most days anyway. We’ve been here for five years and we still take photos almost every day. We’re humbled, and honored, and amazed.
There’s something about this place that connects with our heart. We feel alive here. Some people feel this way about beaches, prairies, woods, or cities. (Pretty cool that it works out that way, huh?)
Where you live matters, because relationships matter. Where you live matters, because your heart matters.
It took us many years to get here. Before we moved, we tried to appreciate every day of the journey, realizing joy does not come from a zip code. (Sounds contradictory, right? But contentment is part of the process.)
Beauty is an essential part of a healthy breakfast. When our tanks are full, we have more to give out to others.
Some people find themselves living in a place they love. Others are born to journey into far-off lands… or across town.
If your dream involves a change of scenery, understand that environment really matters. Take a small step toward your heart, and toward your dreams – and your dream location. It might take years, but you’ll grow in ways you never imagined.
Because your heart matters. So don’t apologize.
Tell me – Where will you be sending postcards and photos from?

Over the course of the past year a house on the shores of Lake Michigan has entered my dream. I’d love to be sending people a running view of the lake. I’m not even a beach person!

Are there fish in that lake, Rick? I’ll be there and take your picture!
Are there fish in Lake Michigan?? Silly question. But, I don’t fish.

You need to come to Colorado and see me, Rick!
This is such a great reminder, Mike! I’ve been practicing this a little bit too. Trying not to apologize or care if I bug someone. If they don’t like it, they certainly don’t have to follow me.
I hope to be sending postcards from all over the world because I’m traveling and speaking. And someday I hope to be posting pictures of my backyard… the Pacific Ocean!

YES! Send me a postcard, Corie – I believe it!
This so resonates with me, between apologies and using excuses rather than explainations our dreams can get derailed by our own mind. Rather than owning it we shy away from it.. sometimes its pictures, words, bowties or whatever the dream is its yours..dont take it away from yourself. One day the postcards will be from all over as my dream pushes me to stretch myself. Whether from the beach in my own backyard, mountain tops of the alps or the barrier reef they all are in the dream I own.
Oh that’s good, Charles – Excuses!! Don’t take the dream away from YOURSELF!
Right now the postcards are going to just come from across town but someday soon they will be from the Pacific, and from the Grand Canyon, and from St. Mary’s Glacier, and from Denali, Alaska, and from …
and from Colorado, Randy!!

Mike, In the next 3-5 years I plan on taking an extended travel walkabout with my entire family. I want to live in a small village in the middle of nowhere and meet and love people I’d never have known. Maybe Argentina for a start? Thanks for sharing and take care of the moose.(-:
