Okay, it’s time for some butt-kicking and a reminder about personal responsibility. It’s time to remove the excuses.
Excuses are just that. A lame explanation as to why you didn’t do what you said you wanted to do or why you did something you didn’t want to do. They can also be used as a way to avoid saying yes to something you don’t want to do instead of using the empowering word NO.
I’m going to save you a lot of trouble.
Just be honest. Tell the truth. Take responsibility. Own it.
Tell people you didn’t do it because you didn’t feel like it, didn’t take yourself seriously, didn’t do it because you were scared or didn’t know how to do it. There’s no need to elaborate with silly excuses. Just the honest truth. Telling the truth is empowering. It allows you to be in control. When you use an excuse it weakens your power.
Excuses are ways to avoid personal responsibility. A way to avoid the truth. But we all know that we are lying to ourselves. And lies are destructive. They don’t set us free to go where we want to go. They hold us back. So does blame. Which is another form of excuse.
How To Stop the Excuses!
It’s time to stop the excuses by simply stating the reason why you struggle moving forward. Just say: I want to do x, y and z but I’m scared, I don’t know how to.
We didn’t have any qualms about saying that as kids. We weren’t born knowing how to walk, we had to figure that out. We weren’t born knowing how to ride a bike, we had to overcome our fear of falling, and then despite that learn how to ride a bike. And we did!
But as adults we avoid pursuing what we really want to do in order to avoid looking like we don’t know what we’re doing. That’s silly. That’s not a good life to live.
Put the “learn through the lens of a curious kid” glasses on and go tackle that fear. Go learn what you need to learn. Go find the time you need in order to go to the next step. Ask for help. When you do, you pave the way for others to do the same. It encourages them to follow suit.
This is your life we’re talking about.
Are you going to live a life full of regrets and excuses or are you going to live a life filled with striving towards and accomplishing your goals and dreams, even when it’s scary? The choice is yours.
