Stop Talking Start Doing

July 18, 2017 by Camilla

I’m going to get right to the point. It’s time to stop talking and time to start doing.

After all, talking about the book you are going to write isn’t going to write the book.

Talking about getting in better shape isn’t going to get you in better shape.

Talking about that you’re going to get that project done isn’t going to get it done.

Talking about what you want to do with your life if you only had x, y and z isn’t going to move you any closer than you are now.

Only thing that will get you any closer is by DOING. Taking action.

Now, I haven’t told you anything you don’t already know. We all know the key to moving forward is by doing.

Why Is It So Hard To Start Doing?

One: You are stuck in planning mode and think you need to have it all planned out before starting. Over-planning is an adjacent cousin of procrastination. If you think you need to have it all perfect, get started. The only way to perfect something is to have something to perfect!

Imagine if Thomas Edison had waited to create the lightbulb until he had it all planned out and perfect on paper. We’d still be using kerosene lamps! Only way he figured it out was by doing. Since then the light bulb has continued to be perfected and will continue being so.

“You don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great.” ~Zig Ziglar

Two: You feel completely overwhelmed because you are looking at the “final” product that are way down the road instead of looking at the process of how to get there. Focus on the next step. Rome wasn’t built in one day, it was built brick by brick. Keep the vision of what you want to accomplish close to your heart as your GPS, but then put your focus on the next step in the process.

Olympians kept their vision of standing on the podium close to their hearts but they didn’t start there. They had a dream, began, then took daily action. They didn’t go from zero to Olympians overnight. There were a lot of steps along the way such as becoming the best on their local team, then state, then regional, then national, then the world.

Three: You are trying to change everything at once and instead of going deep you’re going shallow. There’s nothing wrong with dabbling and trying out different things, but in order to get things done focus on ONE thing at a time.

Stop skimming the milk and create butter instead by picking ONE thing you want to start changing and then take daily steps towards it. Those steps doesn’t have to be huge but they need to be consistent. Use my The Power of 15™ method if time is an issue.

Four: You think you need just one more training, one more course, one more certification, one more this and that before you can get started. Stop being so selfish and self-centered!

The absolute best way to share what you already know is doing just that, share it. Teaching what you know is a great way to not only bless others with your knowledge and potentially change their life, but to also retain what you learn better. Get in the game and share what you already know.

You never stop learning. There’s always more to learn. It’s a never ending cycle. If you wait until you know everything you can never get started because there’s always something new to learn.

Unless you actually apply all the knowledge you accumulate, it’s worthless.

Achieving a goal is a process. It’s a series of small steps of moving forward, learning, tweaking, changing, testing and trying. You don’t become a champion overnight, you become a champion by continually improving. And how do you do that? You consistently take action towards where you want to go. Not by talking about it, not by over planning, and not by bouncing around.

Your time is now! It’s time to stop talking and start doing. If you need any help, join my Accountability Get Stuff Done program where we take action and get stuff done!

How to Achieve What You Want

February 27, 2017 by Camilla

Are people just born successful? Do they just know how to do certain things? Or is there a way anyone can become successful and achieve what they want to achieve?

As a coach and trainer seeing people struggle is one of the hardest things when I know if they did these things they would leap forward in ways they never knew they could. My life changed after I started incorporating the things I’m talking about in the video and I want that for you too.

Points covered in the video:

  • Stop trying to do it all on your own!
  • Successful people ask for help.
  • Get help. Hire a coach, mentor, trainer, nutritionist. Learn from those ahead of you.
  • Join a mastermind.
  • Read books.
  • Think like a child again.
  • On the other side of learning is mastery.

5 Ways to Boost Willpower

January 16, 2017 by Camilla

Do some people have more willpower than others? Yes, and it can have an enormous impact on your life. But no worries, you can train your willpower muscle.

Willpower lives in the front of our brain, namely in the prefrontal cortex, the area responsible for decision making. According to Dr. Kelly McGonigal, author of the book The Willpower Instinct, temporary states such as being under the influence, distracted or even sleep-deprived can alter the function and therefore your strength of willpower.

OMG! Read that again!

“Temporary states such as being under the influence (duh!), distracted or even sleep-deprived can alter the function and therefore your strength of willpower.”

Hello!!!!!

Now, I don’t know your personal story so this may not apply to you, but majority of people are sleep-deprived in today’s ever increasing world of do more and sleep less.

Squirrel!! Oh, FB notification…the amount of distractions that we are exposed to every day is ridiculous. If you haven’t turned notifications off your phone go read this post I wrote. If you’re addicted to notifications it’s not much different than as if you’re addicted to drugs or other dopamine producing things.

Taking notifications off my phone was a game-changer. I already had my phone on silent but anytime I would grab my phone for something there they were – the notifications! In droves. Red little dots everywhere and not to mention the banners from Instagram and Facebook.

Even if I didn’t go in and check them my brain would go “Hey, hmm…wonder what the rest of the message said?” “Hmm, maybe I have a comment somewhere I should go answer?” MAJOR distraction!

Okay, so let’s get back to willpower. When your brain is distracted and/or sleep-deprived you are automatically operating with reduced willpower. Not a great start.

Of course we don’t have to experience lack of sleep to struggle with willpower but I think we can all agree on that when we are tired it’s harder to avoid things we know we should avoid. Most people don’t exactly choose exercise over eating sweets when they are tired and exhausted.

That said, according to research people that showed strong self-discipline and willpower as children tend to fare better as adults, even decades later. Delayed instant gratification played a big role in that.

What Can We Do?

ONE: Increase your sleep and reduce distractions. A well-rested brain has more energy to help you resist those temptations.

TWO: Write things down and track. Keep your goals handy and review them often. Know why you want to achieve something. Clarity gives you motivation which helps boost that willpower to help you get to where you want to go. In a study where participants had to record everything they ate for two weeks those that tracked their progress fared better in willpower depleting tests than those that didn’t. Tracking keeps us accountable which helps us establish better habits.

THREE: Whatever you focus on expands. When you focus on that you shouldn’t have that piece of cake it grows in your mind and won’t let you think of anything else. Focus on instead that you could have that cake but you choose not to. Then focus on your end goal instead and visualize how awesome you will feel once you reach it.

FOUR: You can boost your willpower by eating a diet that provides your brain better glucose. When your brain is low on glucose your willpower also goes down. This could explain why successful people that tend to eat a healthy diet have better habits. They simply have the willpower to get them in place! And it seems as if willpower is just like any muscle, the more you exercise it, the stronger it gets.

FIVE: Your mindset makes a huge difference. In studies people that think that willpower is unlimited have more willpower, while those that think you are born with limited willpower, i.e. “I’m born this way, I don’t have any willpower!” tend to have lower willpower.

Your mind and what you put into your mind can completely change your life! Now that said, eliminating triggers that deplete your willpower can definitely help especially in the beginning of you creating a new habit, or while working on boosting that willpower muscle.

Also, have reminders (like on your phone, sticky notes and friends) that support your new habit or what you are working on becoming. I have reminders going off several times a day on my phone helping to remind me of my goals and of who I want to be.

Habits, mindset and willpower go hand in hand. Here are three awesome books I’ve read that I recommend you read too.*

The Willpower Instinct by Kelly McGonigal
The Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg
Mindset by Carol Dweck

5 Things To Do When You Hit Overwhelm

November 7, 2016 by Camilla

We all hit that feeling of overwhelm at times, especially when we need it the least. What are some things you can do when you are having that kind of day or even that kind of week? In this training video I’m covering 5 things you can do when you hit that level of overwhelm that makes you want to shut everything down and escape.

Summary. For more detailed information, watch the video.

1. Be kind to yourself. Beating yourself up for not getting things done or even worse calling yourself silly names only make things worse. It’s easy to make things into worse than they actually are. Just because you’re having a bad day, doesn’t mean you’re not a capable person. You can’t do anything about the past, but you can do something about the future. Give yourself a clean slate and start the day over.

2. Focus on the essentials. The task/s that are truly must do’s or crap will hit the fan. The rest can wait. When feeling overwhelmed it’s easy to freeze and not get anything done. Instead of trying to decide where to start, just pick one thing to do. I’m a fan of picking the hardest thing first but when feeling overwhelmed do the opposite. Pick ONE simple, easy thing to do. That helps you get momentum, and once you get momentum it’s easier to feel motivation and gain that confidence. Then go tackle that needle mover task. The way you knock things out is ONE thing at a time.

3. Take breaks, meditate, practice gratitude and count your wins. It’s easy to think we don’t have the time to take breaks but they are essential to keeping your energy and productivity up. Breaks also allows you to clear your mind. Often you may get the answer you need when you step away. Meditation is a great stress reducer and can help reset you. If you are new to meditation try free apps such as Calm and Headspace. Remember, meditation is a practice, not something you master overnight. Practicing gratitude should be a daily habit but extra so when life goes against you. Whatever you focus on expands so focus on what you have (or did) vs. what you don’t have (or didn’t do). Also count your wins.

4. Have lunch or dinner with a friend. When we get out of our own head and focus on someone else we tend to forget our own misery. Go volunteer. Helping someone else is a great way to feel better and also get perspective. Plus getting away can give you that boost of energy and creativity to help you get motivated again. There’s nothing like human contact to help you feel better. Computers are great but they are not that great at telling us “you can do this!” At least not yet. 😉

5. Get perspective. You’re having a bad day. That doesn’t mean you’re having a bad week or a month. We all have bad days. It’s okay. Let it go and step away from the situation so that you can see that it’s not as bad as you think.

Now, go out there, and move forward. It’s time to stop spinning and start living.

How To Work Through Fear

October 24, 2016 by Camilla

We all deal with fear at times, especially as we are about to do something that pushes us out of our comfort zone or as we are about to pursue something we really want to do but that we are not certain will result in the outcome we want.

I know the feeling and it’s no fun, but there are ways you can work through it. In this video I’m covering the 5 things I do when dealing with fear and that can help you work through yours so that it won’t hold you back from pursuing what you really want. Because life is short and we got stuff to do!

Summary. For more detailed information, watch the video.

1. Acknowledge the feeling, don’t try to pretend it’s not there. It’s there! By bringing it out in the light we can deal with it. Avoiding it will just make it more noticeable. Whatever we focus on expands. We all deal with fear, key is to not let it slow us down from achieving what we want.

2. Ask yourself why you’re feeling what you are feeling. Is it because you’re afraid you will get a no? Do you need to learn something new? Afraid of rejection? Afraid that your friends and family will make fun of you or think your idea is silly? Scared to put yourself out there? Whatever it is, identify the reason/s. Now you have something tangible to work with.

3. We often assume things and create what I call an assumption based reality. We can’t see into the future so we assume and create “answers” based on the past or based on what others have told us. We also assume it won’t work instead of that it will. The negative tends to win. What if we instead assumed that it will work? That we have what it takes to learn that skill? What if you assumed that you will succeed and get that yes if you do the work and stay the course? All successful people have been told many no’s before they got their yes.

4. Create a plan on how to overcome obstacles and challenges. Create a plan on what new skills to learn, create a plan on how to minimize the risks, create a plan on how to deal with non-supportive people and who to seek out to learn from. By having a plan of action and anticipating the challenges and obstacles ahead of time you can do something about them.

5. Lastly, you just need to go for it. A great question to ask yourself is: What’s the worst that can happen? And am I okay with that answer? If you are, then go for it. Another thing is to find support. There are so many online groups, MeetUp groups and local chapters where you can find like-minded people. Find those that have successfully done what you want to do and ask them how they did that. Hire a coach, find a mentor, find an accountability buddy, join a mastermind, seek out that support.

The number one regret of dying people is that they didn’t pursue the kind of life they wanted to live, they didn’t go after their dreams but lived a life expected of them by others. That’s one sad regret to have. You deserve to be happy, you deserve to live a fulfilling life. Don’t let fear hold you back from achieving what you want. Work through the fear. You can do it!

For you that want more support I’m opening a paid mastermind/coaching group. At this point I will only open it up for 50 people to make sure I can serve everyone, but we are going to move mountains in 2017 so if you are interested click HERE. Now, go out there and tackle that fear! It’s time to stop spinning and start living.
